James Van Riemsdyk’s season just got a lot worse. In the first period of Thursday night’s game against the Isles, the Flyers’ left winger took a puck to the foot.
JVR took a puck directly to the left foot in an attempt to block a shot by Islanders’ forward Milan Jurcina. He was able to clear the puck out of the zone, but struggled to reach the bench; however, he did get back under his own power.
Jurcina ripped a shot from the point and unluckily drilled JVR directly in the foot. He is just coming off of the concussion for which he missed 15 games. Earlier in the season, he reported to have torn muscle around the abdominals and has also been fighting through a constant hip injury.
This is the year of injury for the 23 year old left winger who has 11 goals and 13 assists on the season. The question everyone is asking themselves is what will Paul Holmgren do this offseason with the star forward. JVR will be re-evaluated on Friday to find out any new details to come as well as the time of return.
The Orange and Black will have to move on and not look back in the mirror as the Stanley Cup Playoffs are quickly approaching. The Flyers stand 11 points behind the Rangers for the Division. On Sunday, they will travel to the Nation’s Capital to take on the Washington Capitals in a 7:00 PM EST showdown. The Caps and Flyers are 1-1 against each other so far and will square off twice more before the season comes to a close.
