Although the Flyers (0-2-0) season hasn’t started off as hoped, there have been a few bright spots. Lets take a look at the Flyers top three stars of the opening weekend.
Honorable Mention: Scott Laughton
Few thought that the 18 year-old rookie out of the Oshawa Generals, Scott Laughton, would make the team out of training camp. He has been a pleasant surprise so far this season, showing great composure and confidence for a rookie. He has been aggressive on the forecheck and very responsible defensively. Look for him to stick with the team for the whole season.
3rd Star: Wayne Simmonds
The one they call the “Wayne Train” has been everywhere on the ice this weekend. He has been a pest up in the front of the net to go along with his 1 assist and 8 shots. His puck control has been superb and he has hit everything in his path. It’s looking like it will be a good year for Wayne, who signed a contract extension with the Flyers this offseason.
2nd Star: Claude Giroux

“Captain Claude” has been sensational.
If anyone was worried about the Captain’s production slipping this year, don’t be. Claude has racked up 2 goals in his first 2 games including a beauty on the powerplay in today’s loss versus Buffalo. So far, it doesn’t look like the “C” is changing his game at all, which is a great sign for Flyers fans.
1st Star: Ilya Bryzgalov

Bryz has played well despite horrible defense in front of him.
And now for the man, the myth, the legend: Ilya Bryzgalov. Bryz has looked solid his first 2 starts this season. He has yet to let in a truly questionable goal this season. If the Flyers want to make a deep run this year with a suspect back line, they are going to need Bryz to continue to play like this.
