Temple Flashes Excellence, Drops Xavier

9500 screaming fans, all wearing “I Believe” t-shirts, created a “White Out” at the Liacorous Center, as the Owls raced to an easy win over Xavier.

Temple (19-5, 8-2 A10) showed that they can run with anyone by beating a well rounded Xavier Musketeers team. The Owls showed their defensive prowess yesterday, forcing 11 turnovers with 6 blocks and 7 steals. Thought they stepped up the defense, their offense did not go away they were lead again by their tremendous guards Ramone Moore and Khalif Wyatt, who scored 30 and 18 respectively.

Wyatt's 18 points were important, including this up and under early in the second half.

Temple jumped out against the Musketeers scoring 27 points by the under 8 minutes media time out, and during that time they jumped out to a 16-0 run to start the rout of the Xavier Musketeers. They retained this dominant half throughout the game, going into the half up by 20 and finished the game winning by 13 points, 85-72.

Tu Holloway, the Musketeers’ star, scored 23 points but was unable to lead his team to victory, as Moore was able to keep him from putting up points in big chunks like he has the ability to. Michael Eric and Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson had 16 and 10 rebounds apiece, helping the Owls to an 11-rebound advantage on the boards.

The guard duo of Khalif Wyatt and Ramone Moore has been dominating opponents in their last 4 games, scoring a combined 174 points. They do all the things that go unnoticed by the people, and in picking up there own play they have also helped their entire team pick up their play. If the Owls keep playing like this, then they seem destined to race to the Atlantic 10 title, which they now have with a .5-game lead over second-place Saint Louis. They now head to upstate New York to take on Saint Bonaventure on Wednesday.
