Bryzgaloving: Flyers Goalie Riding High

Many Flyers fans are holding their breaths, hoping that this is not just a lucky stretch for Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. The Flyers have won the 7 out of their last 9 games against some strong opponents.

Bryz denies Toronto's Tyler Bozak in a shootout (philly.com).

Ilya’s recent, strong play, coupled with his surprising humility, has made Flyers’ fans begin to love the goalie rather than hate him. You won’t hear any more “Boo”s in the Wells Fargo Center for the goaltender in Philadelphia if he keeps this level of performance up, finishing the season and also into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Bryz has started 11 straight games for the Flyers including tonight against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Flyers are riding high on a 5 game win streak as of right now with Bryz having an unbelievable 1.25 GAA and .960 save percentage. He has 3 shutouts so far this week, which has not been done by a Flyers goalie since Marty Biron in the 07-08 season. Ilya just keeps gaining love from the Philly fans.

Bryz denies former Flyer Mike Knuble, one of his 34 saves against Washington.

It is becoming harder and harder to score on the goalie as it seems he isn’t staring out into the universe any longer. The Flyers beat the Toronto Maple Leafs last night by a score of 1-0 in a shootout; that means Ilya not only stopped 29 regulation/overtime shots, but also 3 shootout attempts. He’s blanked teams featuring Phil Kessel and Alex Ovechkin, two of the most feared offensive players in the NHL.

The Flyers are beginning to get hot at the right time, cruising right into the playoffs. Last year, the Boston Bruins began to get hot right around this time and they went on to win the Stanley Cup Trophy. Could this be a trend and happen to the Flyers this year?

Well Seamus as much as that seems true, it really is not. He is beginning to get hot at the right time for the Flyers and like I said, The Boston Bruins got hot right around this time and went on to win the Stanley Cup.

he will destroy everyone next year because he’ll actually know the style of the eastern teams as opposed to the western teams he was accustomed to for most of the season

Do you think Bryz can keep this up, or is he peaking at the wrong time?
