Bargnani, Raptors Shred 76ers in Humiliating Fashion

The Raptors were looking for a win in Philadelphia on Wednesday night, looking to take advantage of a reeling Sixers club to win their season-high 3rd straight. They got what they wanted. In fact, they got it pretty easily in a 99-78 rout.

The first quarter was a tightly-contested period, as the Raptors and Sixers traded their four buckets. Then the Raptors went on a quick 5-0 run to go up 13-8, but the Sixers responded midway through the quarter to take a two-point lead. A Lou Williams buzzer beater saw the Sixers up 31-29 at the break. Hawes, Brand, and Holiday were huge in the quarter, scoring 6, 8, and 10 respectively.

DeRozan passes around Iguodala; he had 18 as the Raptors routed Philadelphia.

The second quarter saw the Sixers trying to pull away , going up by as many as 6 with 8:26 to play. But, a fade-away, desperation corner three-pointer from Linas Kleiza basically summed up the game for the Raptors, as they just looked like a team determined to win. Kleiza used that 3-ball to go on a 7-0 run of his own, overcoming the Sixers deficit, but then the Sixers and Raptors went on to trade buckets for nearly the rest of the quarter once again.

Down 2 on a Beno Udrih floater, Jrue Holiday drilled a three to give the Sixers the lead at half time, 56-55. At the half, Holiday had 17 points on 8-8 shooting; it was the most impressive offensive half we’ve seen from the young point guard this season.

The third quarter saw the Raptors start to take control. Star forward Andrea Bargnani had 7 of his 20 points in the quarter, including a four-point play to put the Raptors up 7. At the end of the quarter, the Raptors led 79-71.

The fourth was the worst quarter of basketball I have ever seen. At least from the Sixers.

They were one-and-done, shooting 3/20 from the field and only grabbing three offensive rebounds, two of which came in the last 20 seconds. They scored just 7 points in the quarter, making zero field goals from the 9-minute mark all the way to the 40-second mark. During this time they were outscored 18-1 by the Raptors, transmuting a manageable six-point deficit into a 23-point fiasco. Two Bargnani jumpers plus a Jose Calderon three-pointer sealed the deal.

Andre Iguodala returned tonight with a left-eye contusion, playing with glasses. Dre had 6 points on 2-6 FG, and he also recorded 6 assists and 2 blocks.

Holiday and Brand each scored 20, shooting an impressive 18-29 (62%) from the field. Unfortunately, the rest of the team shot only 32% from the field and 20% from 3-point range.

Bargnani led the Raptors with 24 points, Calderon had twelve points and thirteen assists, and DeMar DeRozan scored 18 as well.

The Sixers (29-25) play the Magic on Saturday at home as they hope to end their recent skid, one which has put them 1.5 games behind Boston for the Atlantic Division lead.
