The Philadelphia 76ers (15-20) have decided to waive un-drafted rookie Maalik Wayns, a Roman Catholic and Villanova product. The Sixers official Twitter account reported the news late Sunday afternoon:
The young guard from Villanova has averaged 2.5 PPG with 7.8 minutes per game. The Sixers have a bunch of guards on the roster and it is unfortunate for Wayns that he is the one to be cut. The Sixers have the option of signing him to a 10-day deal after he clears waivers, but it is still unlikely they’ll do so.
The Sixers have decided to upgrade their front court and bring back 1st-round draft pick Arnett Moultrie. He started the season off with the Sixers, but was then sent down to the Development League (D-League) with Sioux Falls. Moultrie was not very productive in the D-League but he played well during the pre-season. Hopefully this proves to be a good move for the Sixers and they can collect some wins.
