Philadelphia Eagles Defensive Coordinator Search: Jim Herrmann Reportedly Interviewing For Position

The Philadelphia Eagles found their head coach, and now it’s time for Chip Kelly to pick his assistants.

The latest name to come up for the defensive coordinator position is New York Giants linebackers coach Jim Herrmann, per Adam Schefter.

Before spending seven years a linebackers coach with the New York Jets (2006-2008) and Giants (2009-present), Herrmann was the defensive coordinator for the Michigan Wolverines. In the NFL he’s helped develop linebackers like All-Pro David Harris and two-time Super Bowl champion Chase Blackburn. His defenses were excellent at Michigan, which is why Kelly might be looking at Herrmann for the position. He would likely come in and run a traditional 4-3 like the Giants do.

Other names that have come up for the position are both college coaches, Todd Grantham of Georgia and Kirby Smart of Alabama. Both run the 3-4 and have top prospects, Jarvis Jones and Dee Milliner, coming out in the 2013 draft.
