Flyers 3 Stars: Briere, G Lead Flyers Over ‘Canes

The Flyers are finally back in the win column after their 5-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. It was very pleasing to see the Flyers’ special teams be successful. Let’s look at the 3 stars for the Flyers.

Honorable Mention: Kurtis Foster

Kurtis foster showed us tonight why GM Paul Holmgrem signed him after the lockout. Foster scored his first goal as a Flyer with his short-side blast on the powerplay.

3rd Star: Danny Briere

Briere once again got a chance to play on the top line with Giroux and McGinn and he made the most of it. Briere registered 1 goal and 1 assist, the goal coming on the powerplay. I thought he saw the ice very well tonight, making great decisions in all 3 zones.

2nd Star: Claude Giroux

Tonight the captain showed us why he is arguably the best player in the world tonight. Claude registered 1 goal and 1 assist and was excellent defensively.  He made numerous smart decisions on the PK as well as on the powerplay. Look for Claude to build off of this game in an attempt to make up for his slow start.

1st Star: Ilya Bryzgalov

Ilya Bryzgalov was once again stellar in net for the Flyers. He stopped 39 out of 42 shots bringing his season save percentage up to .920. A couple of the goals were also not his fault, coming off of poor turnovers in the defensive zone. Bryz has been the Flyers best player so far this season and is showing evryone why he is the $51 million man.
