Flyers 3 Stars: Simmonds, McGinn Lone Bright Spots in Flyers’ Ugly Loss to Leafs

Although emotions were running high in Luke Schenn’s return to Toronto, the Flyers were beaten badly by the Maple Leafs, 5-2.  As we study the stat sheet to find any silver linings, the Flyers look to regroup and will get back at it tomorrow, facing the 5-5-1 Winnipeg Jets.

3rd Star: Bruno Gervais

As almost every Flyer played poorly tonight, Gervais’ selection as third star is the best of a bad situation. Number 27 had three shots on goal, three blocked shots, and two hits in tonight’s battle. Hopefully these types of contributions can carry on throughout the season, but with a different result.

2nd Star: Tye McGinn

Although it didn’t come in as happy of a circumstance as his first goal did, McGinn netted his second of the year in the closing minutes of the tilt. Being the class act that he is, McGinn did not celebrate after his goal, but rather nodded to his teammates and skated to the bench. It would be easy for a rookie to get excited over his second career tally, but McGinn showed Flyers fans everywhere that we have a good kid on our hands.

1st Star: Wayne Simmonds

Although it didn’t last long, Wayne Simmonds gave the Flyers an early 1-0 lead with his rebound goal.  Known for causing mayhem in front of the net, Simmonds did just that, and beat Reimer after the initial save. In his second game back from a concussion, Simmonds looks to continue shaking off the rust as the Flyers continue their season-long six-game road trip. It is Simmonds’ 3rd goal of the year.
