Eagles Will Not Use Franchise Tag, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to Hit Free Agent Market

The window has opened for teams to use their franchise tag this offseason, but according to a report by CSNPhilly’s Geoff Mosher, the Philadelphia Eagles will not be using the tag this season.

This is important to only one player, and that is cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, whose contract is expiring. He would have to be paid $10.7 million, the average salary of the top five corners in the league, and that is obviously something he is not worth. Thus, he’ll be hitting the open market this offseason.

DRC recorded 51 tackles and three interceptions in 2012, but after a strong start, he and fellow corner Nnamdi Asomugha fell apart in the second half of the season.

Other Eagles FAs include unrestricted free agents Jake Scott, Jon Dorenbos, Darryl Tapp, Derek Landri, and Akeem Jordan. Safety Colt Anderson is a restricted free agent. Last season, the Eagles tagged WR DeSean Jackson before signing him long-term later in the offseason.
