Flyers 3 Stars: Voracek, Giroux Headline Rout Over Islanders

Today the Flyers played their best game of the season by far, defeating the New York Islanders 7-0. The last time they shut out a team 7-0, the Phillies won the World Series the next day.

The Flyers came out with loads of energy and played great, team-oriented hockey. Let’s look to see who were the top performers of this matinee game.

3rd Star: Jake Voracek

Jake notched a career high 4 assists this afternoon. He was excellent with the puck making great decisions in the offensive zone. Peter Laviolette’s new first line of Read, Giroux, and Voracek worked very well tonight, scoring 3 goals and contributing 7 assists while registering a +3 plus-minus ratio.

2nd Star: Ilya Bryzgalov

Bryz recorded his 30th career shutout in his 400th career game. Although he didn’t face many shots (19 shots), a shutout is a shutout.

1st Star: Claude Giroux

All Flyers fans can breath a sigh relief as Captain Claude has found his old form. Claude came right out with a strong body check then scored, all within 30 secconds. Claude finished the game with 2 goals, 1 assist, and was +3.
