Eagles Sign Former Tulsa QB G.J. Kinne

The Philadelphia Eagles made yet another move at the quarterback position, adding their third signal-caller of the offseason. But it isn’t a big name who’ll take the job over from Nick Foles/Michael Vick/Dennis Dixon come training camp. It’s former Tulsa QB G.J. Kinne.

Kinne joins Trent Edwards, Foles, Vick, and Dixon at the position, which means at least two will be released/traded by the end of the preseason. This move likely means the end for Edwards in Philadelphia, as the Eagles seem to want to get younger at the third-string quarterback spot. Meanwhile, it could also mean an imminent trade of young QB Nick Foles, who Mike Garafolo of USA Today has reported in the past could end up in Kansas City for a draft pick.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Kinne will be “nothing more than a camp arm”; he worked out for Chip Kelly and Co. on Thursday to earn a job, but even after an impressive workout it’s unlikely he’ll make the active roster unless a big deal goes down in the next few months.

Kinne spent three years at Tulsa, racking up over 6000 yards and 80 touchdowns. He paired up with current Birds wide receiver Damaris Johnson, who was his top target in college. He spent his first pro season with the New York Jets, but has spent the last few months with the Arena Football League’s San Antonio Talons.
