Philadelphia Eagles Release Corner Nnamdi Asomugha

It was a matter of time. That’s all it was.

I mean, when your season highlights look like this, it’s not very hard to see it coming.

NNAMDI

The day NFL free agency is set to begin, the Philadelphia Eagles have decided to move on from veteran corner Nnamdi Asomugha after two dreadful seasons in Philadelphia. Just two years ago, his megadeal with the Eagles made him one of the highest-paid and highly-celebrated corners in the history of the league, but after two years of a bad attitude, blown assignments, and a clear lack of motivation, the Eagles decided his $15 million salary wasn’t worth paying.

This move gives the Eagles over $45 million in cap space and perhaps signals a complete overhaul in the secondary. Cutting Nnamdi (and likely failing to re-sign Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie) gives the team room to trade for and then re-sign a guy like Darrelle Revis, and perhaps this move is an indicator that they’re leaning in that direction.
