The Philadelphia Phillies have announced Cole Hamels will be the Opening Day starter.

This will be Hamels’ first Opening Day start. He was supposed to start the Phillies’ 2009 Opening Day, but was injured. Hamels will end Roy Halladay’s 10 year streak of starting Opening Days, longest among active pitchers.

He’s coming off one of his best seasons in which the National League All Star went 17-6 with a 3.05 ERA.

Hamels is 18 days away from facing the Braves in Atlanta April 1st.
