Eagles Trade FB Stanley Havili to the Colts for DE Clifton Geathers

The Philadelphia Eagles continue rebuilding their 3-4 defense, making their 7th defensive move of the offseason. This time it was via a trade; they sent FB Stanley Havili to the Indianapolis Colts for DE Clifton Geathers.

In his rookie season, Havili racked up only 65 total yards, but that’s because he was rarely utilized in Andy Reid’s offense. Although versatile, Havili has no place in Chip Kelly’s offense (which doesn’t use traditional fullback) and that fact was accentuated by the fact that the Eagles decided to sign TE/FB James Casey earlier this offseason.

Geathers, a third-year player out of South Carolina, recorded 5 tackles and 1 sack in limited playing time last season. At 6’7″, 325 pounds, he comes to the 3-4 as a 5-tech DE competitor to push or maybe even outcompete 2nd-round pick Vinny Curry. This allows Fletcher Cox to slide back into his more suitable 3-tech position.

The front seven now looks like this:

Geathers/Curry Sopoaga – Cox (5-tech – NT – 3-tech)

Barwin Kendricks Ryans Graham/Cole
