Flyers 3 Stars: Giroux, Hartnell Lead in Shootout Loss To The Islanders

What started out to be a wonderful game by the Flyers turned bad, then good, then bad again as the Flyers lose in the shootout. The playoffs are looking farther and farther away as the Flyers can’t seem to find a way to win, let a lone put a streak together. Let’s see who the top performers were in this one.

3rd Star: Wayne Simmonds

After another brutal facial injury suffered during the Flyers’ previous outing, Simmer tallied 2 assists. Simmonds was, as always, a pivotal part of the power play, providing screens and goalie distractions. Simmonds was extremely important on the game-tying goal, causing chaos in the goal mouth for Islander goaltender Evgeni Nabokov.

2nd Star: Claude Giroux

Captain Claude was brilliant again, as he notched 2 assists. Claude once again was insane in the face off dot, going 17-29 for 59%. And if you didn’t see his shootout goal, I feel very bad for you. I will tweet it later because it was that insane. Also for people who are down on Giroux, listen to this: Claude has 22 points in his last 17 games. Claude still is elite, so don’t worry, this Claude is here to stay.

1st Star: Scott Hartnell

Scott Hartnell completed the alternative Gordie Howe Hat Trick, scoring 2 goals and 1 fight. Both of Hartsy’s goals were on the power play: one down low and one in the slot. You hope that a game like this gets Scott going. If the Flyers are going to attempt to make the playoffs, Hartsy’s going to have to find his goal scoring touch, both even strength and on the power play.islanders

**Side Note**

When Claude Giroux gets boarded late in the 3rd period (where’s the call?) how come no one stepped in to protect him. He only is your captain, your superstar, YOUR BEST PLAYER. Very disappointed with the Flyers players on the ice at that time.
