What a game, as the Flyers beat the Caps in their most exciting game of the season. As the man, the myth, the legend Steve “Coatsey” Coates just said on Flyers PostGame Live, “it was an emotional roller coaster”. The Flyers are creeping up the Eastern Conference Standing, getting closer and closer to that coveted 8th spot.
3rd Star: Jake Voracek
For the people who don’t like fighting, skip this section. Jake Voracek is a speedy scorer; not a fighter or tough guy by any means. However, after a big hit on his captain, Jake came in and stood up for him. If you recall in my last recap, I was rather upset that no one did this after Lubomir Visnovsky boarded Claude late in the 3rd Period. Even though the Caps scored 2 goals off of dumb rules, Jake sparked the team to play with more intensity. You go Jake!
2nd Star: Claude Giroux
Claude had himself a hell of game, racking up 2 assists and power play goal. After a bad, may I say horrible turnover that lead to a goal, Claude showed why he is the captain. He went on to score on the power-play and then assist on Read’s goal which tie the game (previously Kimmo’s goal, but after further evaluation, Read tipped it). Claude now has 26 points in his last 18 games.
1st Star: Kimmo Timonen
There is a reason Kimmo has lasted 1000 games: for games like these. Kimmo racked up 4 assists, including on the game-tying goal and OT winner. As always, Kimmo was a rock on the back-end, leading the defensive corps.
