The Philadelphia Eagles continue to rebuild their defense, trading for Cleveland Browns linebacker Emmanuel Acho. In return, the Browns will receive running back Dion Lewis.
Dion Lewis has been on the trading block for some time now, and it’s been obvious. Chip Kelly has three solid running backs—LeSean McCoy, Bryce Brown, and Chris Polk—so Lewis had no spot on this roster. Lewis finished his Eagles career with 36 carries for 171 yards (4.8 yards per carry) and two touchdowns.
Acho (6-2, 238) will likely be a backup/camp player for the Eagles, nothing more. A former 6th-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, he was placed on injured reserve after a leg injury without playing a single game in 2012. He fits in as a weak-side inside linebacker in the 3-4.
He played under now-Eagles defensive coordinator Billy Davis in Cleveland last season.
