Ilya Bryzgalov Buyout, Matt Read Trade Surface for Flyers

Over the weekendm reports of a possible buyout of Ilya Bryzgalov surfaced from Bob McKenzie and The Fourth Period. There is no surprise coming after struggles for Bryz in Philly and the drop of the salary cap.

The time to part ways with Bryz has come (via PennLive).

The report from The Fourth Period suggested that talks between LA regarding a Matt Read for goalie Jonathan Bernier (9-3-1, 1.87 GAA) deal would resurface after going flat at the deadline.

The first option to pick up Bernier doesn’t have to be a trade. The Flyers could sing the RFA to an offer sheet worth around $3 million and only have to compensate LA a 2nd round pick. If LA were to match, they would be spending close to $9 million on goalies, and would find themselves in a sticky situation when having to resign key players within the next  couple years.

Their next option would be what was stated above, a deal involving an impact forward, Matt Read, and possibly more.

If the Flyers are unable to grab Bernier, there are a few options left. Let Bryz give it another year and have a solid tandem with Mason, amnesty Bryz and sign Ray Emery to go head to head with Steve Mason for the starting job, amnesty Bryz and take a shot at Luongo, or sign a reliable backup and give Mason the reigns.
