On Tuesday June 25th around 1:08PM the Philadelphia Flyers have officially announced that they have decided to buy out the 8yr and the 5.6mil cap hit per year contract of goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. The club has already announced that they will also be buying out the contract of forward Danny Briere.
There buyouts will be made official tomorrow night as that is the designated time to use the compliance buyouts against two members of each teeam. These moves of clearing the contracts of Danny Briere and Ilya Bryzgalov will clear up about $4.18 million in cap space for the Flyers. The Flyers will also have to pay the 33-year old goaltender $1.64 million every year for the next 14 seasons!
When asked about the buy out Ilya Bryzgalov responded “I dont want to talk to you guys [the media]” he also said ‘congratulations you guys” when he was told that he would be bought out. Insiders like Bob Mackenzie and Darren Dreger are not surprised by this move.
