Flyers Rumor Mill: Bogosian, Yandle, Byfuglien and Kane

After signing free agent forward Vincent Lecavalier to a 5-year/$4.5 million per year contract the Flyers seem to be loading up in the center position. This means a couple things,  perhaps having a center move to the wing or trading a center for a defenseman or a goalie. The two names that have popped up are Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier.

Bogosian would be a nice addition, for the right price.

There have been many rumors recently from Rich Smith (@ALLsportsINTEL) about the Flyers talking a trade with the Winnipeg Jets. Names being thrown around are defenseman Zach Bogosian, defenseman Dustin Byfuglien, and even young forward Evander Kane. Based on their needs, I would assume the Flyers would mainly be targeting either Bogosian or Byfuglien. The 22-year old Zach Bogosian had 5 goals and 9 assists for 14 points in 33 games during the 2012-2013 season. He brings a phyical, shut-down game on the defensive end. He would provide excellent defense for a team that has been struggling in that aspect of the game.

The other defenseman, Dustin Byfuglien, 28, brings more of an offensive game to the table. Last season, he played in 43 games with the Jets, registering 8 goals and 20 assists for 28 points. I see Byfuglien as a bit of a defensively liability given his lack of movement and speed. He wouldn’t be my first option to fill a gaping whole in a struggling blue line. Byfuglien is also known to have off-ice struggles as well, as his weight is becoming to be an issue.

The Flyers have also been in contact with the Phoenix Coyotes about Defenseman Keith Yandle. Yandle, 26, who has not missed a single game for 4 straight seasons, is a 2-way defenseman who had 10 goals and 20 assists for 30 points in all 48 games last season. The latest rumor i’ve heard was sending Sean Couturier along with Braydon Coburn for Keith Yandle. Personally, I would not do this. I think we can package Coburn and Couturier to the St. Louis Blues for defenseman Alex Pietrangelo.
