Flyers Looking to Resign Simon Gagne

As free agency opens up today, a lot of rumors have surrounded the Philadelphia Flyers, involving names like Ray Emery, Viktor Stalberg, and even Sean Couturier (as a likely trade chip).

One that has flown under the radar is the re-signing of unrestricted free agent Simon Gagne, which Frank Seravalli of the Daily News has reported is at the front of Paul Holmgren’s mind even amidst the frenzy of free agency:

While Gagne is no longer the 40-goal scorer he was in his prime with the Flyers, he had a clear impact on the team’s special teams last year after being traded to the Flyers from the Kings. He had five goals and six assists in 27 games, with two goals and one assist on the power play.

An expected cap hit would be $1.5 million per year, with a deal likely between two and three years in length.
