The Philadelphia Flyers have officially found their next goaltender. According to several reports, it is Ray Emery, the former Flyer who won the Stanley Cup last season with the Chicago Blackhawks.
The details, per Tim Panaccio:
Dan Rosen says it is definitely one year:
This move will likely be the first of many for Paul Holmgren and the team as free agency just gets underway. It makes a lot of sense; the Flyers needed a relatively cheap goalie to tandem with Steve Mason, and $1.65 million is not very much at all considering how well Emery performed last season (17-1-0, 1.94 GAA, .922 save %).
Also, this one-year deal gives the Flyers the ability to gauge Mason and Emery and sign the better one to a long-term, more expensive deal at the end of the offseason.
