Delmon Young Designated For Assignment

The Phillies have Designated Outfielder Delmon Young for assignment in order to make room for recently claimed OF Casper Wells as first reported by CSN’s Jim Salisbury. Young hit for a .261/.302/.397 line with eight homeruns and 31 RBI in 80 games this year. Due to recent struggles, he had been benched.

Casper Wells was claimed by the Phillies on Thursday. With the White Sox and A’s this year, Wells has hit .155/.211/.169 with one RBI in 76 plate appearances. Wells is a career .236/.305/.407 hitter.  Casper Wells pitched one scoreless inning of relief on June 28 against the Indians and even managed to strike out shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera in a 19-10 White Sox loss. Chances are, he is more consistent than any other reliever in our muddled bullpen! This will be his fifth team in four years.
