Eagles Trade for WR Jeff Maehl

The Nate Menkin Era in Philadelphia is over. The Philadelphia Eagles have traded the 24-year old offensive lineman to the Texans for former Oregon wide receiver Jeff Maehl.

Maehl, who played under Chip Kelly for four years at Oregon, has been on the Texans’ practice squad for two years. He had over 1000 yards and 12 touchdowns in his senior season at Oregon, but has only appeared in three NFL games without recording a single statistic.

Maehl doesn’t have game-breaking speed, but his agility is top-notch and he runs great routes. Chip Kelly figures to give him a shot to make the team or practice squad given the depleted wide receiving corps; his familiarity with Kelly’s style could help him do just that.

Nate Menkin figured to be a 9th lineman or practice squad player, and while losing his versatility may hurt a little, he was expendable to say the least.
