BREAKING: Charlie Manuel Out As Phillies Manager

According to several reports, including CSNPhilly’s Jim Salisbury and the Inquirer’s Matt Gelb, Charlie Manuel is OUT as the Philadelphia Phillies manager.

This comes after the team announced a 2:30 press conference but did not release the purpose. After winning a World Series in 2008 and then making it another one in 2009, Charlie’s Phillies have gone downhill ever since. His overall record as Phillies manager is 780-636 and he recently won his 1000th managerial game.

Few fault Charlie for the team’s sudden collapse, that fault lies with Ruben Amaro Jr., but his unwillingness to make changes, especially when it comes to younger prospects, has frustrated many. No matter what, few expected the marriage to end like this.

It is likely that Ryne Sandberg takes over in the interim.
