Flyers 3 Stars: Stolarz, Cousins Shine in Preseason Opener

Hockey is back! After an offseason that was longer than Flyers fans are used to, the Flyers are back for another quest for Lord Stanley’s cup. While the result wasn’t what we were all hoping for, it was great to see the Orange and Black back on the ice. In addition, we got to see how some of our top prospects are developing. The Flyers have split-squad games tomorrow: Home vs. the Washington Capitals and Away at Maple Leafs. These games will not be televised but will be webcasted on the Flyers website.

3rd Star: Anthony Stolarz

The Flyers 2nd round pick form 2012 showed why the organization is so high on him. The 6’6 goaltender showed his impressive mixture of size and agility on numerous saves. Stolarz also showed his awareness on the ice,  constantly directing defenseman and tracking the play in front of him.

2nd Star: Erik Gustafsson

Erik Gustafsson was in my opinion the Flyers best defenseman tonight. He made many impressive plays keeping the puck alive in the offensive zone while being solid in his own. Look for Erik to improve upon his impressive end of last season and World Championship play.

1st Star: Nick Cousins

Nick Cousins is possibly the Flyers most interesting prospect. Cousins is a highly skilled player who is great on the forecheck and getting under opposing players skin. A good comparison to Cousins is Brad Marchand. Nick showed tonight why he was so successful in the OHL. The Flyers winger registered one assist and showed his nose for the net with a rebound in the second period.

Cousins had a goal tonight to go along with the assist. Braydon Schenn had a strong game too. Goal and an assist and was physical all night

Agreed. Schenn showed some great progress. Hopefully he can rack up somewhere between 50-60 points on the second line.
