The Philadelphia Flyers have continued to slim their roster, bringing the magic number to one (they have to cut one more player). They can only have 23 active players on the roster.
None of today’s cuts were very surprising. They waived forwards Kris Newbury and Ben Holmstrom, defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon, and goalie Yann Danis with the purpose of re-assigning them to their AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms. The rest of the roster can be found here.
This makes it pretty clear that Scott Laughton, Max Talbot, and Michael Raffl will be battling out for the 3rd-line left winger spot, and that Jay Rosehill will make the final roster. In addition, it’s interesting to see that defenseman Oliver Lauridsen, who played in a handful of games last season, will make the team this year. Only 24 years of age, Lauridsen is one of the few defensemen that has successfully risen up through the ranks over the past couple years in this organization, and showed a lot of promise on the blue line last year. It will be interesting to see if he can get some quality ice time behind a strong group of veterans.
