Steve Mason (left) and Ray Emery (right) are in a battle to be the full-time starter.
Before the season started Ray Emery was expected to outplay Steve Mason and take over as the starting goaltender. Through six games there are no signs of that happening anytime soon. Mason has outplayed Emery and has shown the potential he has as a starter in this league.

Neither goalie has gotten the scoring support or even defensive support at times, but Mason has been able to keep them in games. Emery has not shown signs of anything spectacular in his first two, but Mason has been far above average in his four starts. He’s made plenty of tough saves, especially on breakaways/after turnovers in the defensive zone. Emery, on the other hand, has been out of position on far too many goals now.
I expect this tandem to be over within the next ten games and Mason to be the full-time starter.
