Eagles Trade Nose Tackle Isaac Sopoaga

The Philadelphia Eagles’ front seven has been a major disappointment this season, and with the trade deadline looming this afternoon, GM Howie Roseman decided to pull the trigger on dealing veteran nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga; the Eagles traded him and a 6th-rounder in this year’s draft for a 5th-rounder from the New England Patriots.

While this trade may not seem very beneficial on the surface, Sopoaga has struggled mightily this season, generating virtually no pressure in the passing game and failing to really clog the hole on defense. With the team’s new 3-4 defense taking shape, having a solid nose tackle is key; it is apparent Chip Kelly and Roseman saw little in Sopoaga and are deciding to give rookie Bennie Logan a chance to fill the void, literally.

As for how bad the Sopoaga signing is, just look what the Eagles had to pay the 32-year old former 49er:
