Al Golden to Be Next Head Football Coach of Penn State Nittany Lions

The Penn State Nittany Lions were impressive during their two-year run under head coach Bill O’Brien, recovering from the Jerry Sandusky that crippled their scholarship program and put doubt in the future of the team in the minds of Nittany Lions supporters everywhere. O’Brien, however, recently accepted a position to become the next head coach of the Houston Texans, and the Nittany Lions were forced to conduct their 2nd coaching search in 3 years after going 46 years without having to do even a single one (thanks to the legendary Joe Paterno).

They’ve apparently found their man of the future, in current Miami Hurricanes head coach and Penn State alumnus Al Golden. CaneSport, the leading Miami Hurricanes site, reported that Golden was indeed offered the job and “expected” to take it according to a source. More from 6ABC’s Jim Gardner:

After a rough start at a rebuilding Temple, Golden has gone 39-23 over the past five seasons (two with Temple, three with Miami). He did a great job of building up the Owls’ program and then jumping in quickly at the U. Golden was also captain of the Penn State football team when he attended, playing tight end on the varsity team for three seasons.
