The Philadelphia Eagles now have four “Pro Bowlers,” as left guard Evan Mathis will be headed to Hawaii in a couple of weeks for the 2014 Pro Bowl! He joins LeSean McCoy (going), Jason Peters (opted out), and Nick Foles (alternate, but going) as the Eagles who will be deemed “2014 Pro Bowlers” after all is said and done this season.
There are few players more deserving than Mathis, who made the All-Pro team as the league’s best left guard, but was snubbed in Pro Bowl voting. Enough players opted out/will be sidelined by the Super Bowl that Mathis, a 2nd alternate, will be going to Honolulu. He was rated the top offensive lineman by Pro Football Focus, and helped anchor an offensive line that was extremely strong in the run game. This is his first Pro Bowl berth.
