Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly Wins Pro Football Coach of the Year

One year ago today, Chip Kelly accepted the job as the new head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. The Birds, coming off of a 4-12 season and 14 seasons of Andy Reid, needed a new direction and a new vibe.

One year later, they have their confirmation: after leading a resurgence on both sides of the ball that resulted in a 10-6 season, Kelly was named the Maxwell Football Club’s Professional Football Coach of the Year.

Under Kelly’s guidance, the offense under new starting quarterback Nick Foles flourished, leading the NFL in rushing yards and finishing 2nd in total yards. One year after being 29th in the NFL in points scored, the Eagles were 4th. Two offensive linemen, Evan Mathis and Jason Peters, earned 1st-Team All-Pro accolades, running back LeSean McCoy won the rushing title and also earned an All-Pro bid, and quarterback Nick Foles finished with a 27-2 TD-INT ratio and a Pro Bowl berth despite playing in only 10 games.

The defense also improved greatly over the course of the season, averaging under 21 points per game over the team’s last 8 contests.
