Sixers to Work Out Indiana Forward Noah Vonleh

With the 2014 NBA Draft only nine days away, many are interested to find out which prospects top Philadelphia 76ers General Manager Sam Hinkie’s “big board,” and the presence and results of draft workouts with individual players can always be a slight indication.

According to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports, Hinkie is bringing in Indiana forward Noah Vonleh for a private workout this Thursday. He joins Dante Exum, Andrew Wiggins, and Julius Randle as some of the top prospects who have worked out for Philadelphia.

Vonleh played only one season at Bloomington, averaging 11.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game while shooting 52.3 percent from the field. He was listed at 6’9″ and 247 pounds at the combine.

While it is unlikely that the Sixers take him with their 3rd overall pick, Vonleh is a player they could trade up for from No. 10. In a recent article, I outlined possible trade opportunities with veteran Thaddeus Young, and moving up to No. 7 or No. 8 to grab Vonleh could be in the fold. Vonleh is projected by many to be selected between 6th and 9th on June 26.

Vonleh, a very solid rebounder and talented offensive player who can score down low and stretch the defense, seems like a great fit to put next to the rim-protecting Nerlens Noel. He also fits the mold of long, mobile, athletically-gifted prospects whom Sam Hinkie has selected in the past.

According to NBADraft.net’s scouting report:

“[Vonleh] has shown flashes of potential to stretch the defense, as well as a rapidly developing post game, helped by his solid frame … Will not be 19 until August, which again brings to mind the potential growth his body and game could go through, along with the fantastic size and coordination he already possesses … Was a great rebounder during his freshman season, very aggressive on both ends of the floor hitting the glass … Gets out on the break and runs very well for his size. Shows very good mobility for a player with his size and strength, moves his feet especially well considering his thick, tree trunk legs … His combination of length, size and mobility made him a factor on that side of the floor, along with having major upside on that end with increased experience, awareness”
