Everyone knows Chip Kelly covets quarterback prospect Marcus Mariota, and so it will not come as much of a surprise to you that Metro’s Kristian Dyer is reporting that a “high-placed league source” tells him that if the Oregon quarterback falls to No. 6, the Eagles will do what it takes to swap picks with New York and take Mariota.
The source added that it could take multiple picks and a player to pry the 6th pick, but that New York does not see Mariota as a fit which is why they would be willing to move him to Philadelphia.
Kelly brought Mariota to Oregon, where he posted over 10,000 passing yards, 2200 rushing yards, and 100 passing touchdowns in three seasons at the helm of the Ducks’ high-flying offense. He made it to the national championship this past season where he lost to Ohio State.
Some have speculated that the player involved may be one of the team’s two, young defensive stars, Fletcher Cox or Mychal Kendricks, which is why the team has yet to begin contract extension talks.
